Community Council Agenda for Tuesday, May 14

Community Council will meet on Tuesday, May 14, at 1:00 p.m. and collectively realize that it forgot to call its mother. It will then take a short break and reconvene at 2:20 feeling a little frazzled, guilty, and resentful.

RSVP for Board of Trustees reception

Dear Antioch Staff and Faculty,

Today is the deadline to RSVP for the reception with the Board of Trustees hosted by the Office of Admission and Financial Aid and the Office of Advancement. The reception is Friday, May 17 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The reception will be held in the lobby of South Hall; wine and cheese will be provided. Also, if you have not yet been able to experience Appetite: An American Pastime, don't fret; the Herndon Gallery will be open to enjoy during the reception!

President Mark Roosevelt to deliver Executive Briefing

On Friday May 17 at 7:30 p.m. in McGregor 113, Mark will give an Executive Briefing. Students, staff, faculty, and the public are invited to join the Antioch College Board of Trustees at this event.

Free lunch on May 21 in North Hall

Community Governance is sponsoring a free lunch for all faculty and staff, including Glen Helen and WYSO employees on May 21 in North Hall. CG is covering the usual $5 charge, so why not come on down and enjoy some of Antioch Kitchens' delicious food whilst shmoozing and mingling, perhaps with some people to whom you've never spoken? If all goes well this will become a monthly event.

Community Life Updates

Resident Life Manager Search Candidate on Campus We will be bringing three candidates to campus in the coming two weeks for our vacant Resident Life Manager position. Friday, May 17: 10-2, Matthew ConnawayMonday, May 20: 10-2, Jerron ParkerWednesday, May 22: 10-2, Nicolas DailyThe search committee will be meeting with the candidates from 10:30 to11:30 a.m. in South Hall. Students are invited to attend lunch with the candidates at the North Hall meeting room from 12 to 1:15 p.m.

SOPP updates

Comcil will be discussing the revisions of the SOPP during Comcil this week. Once we have revised the policy, we will be having information tables in the Dining Hall as well as posting the revisions in all residence halls.

Official Community Bartender Training

Due to requests from students in classes on Wednesday nights, we will be pushing back the time of the Community bartender training to 8:30 on Wednesday evening May 15. The training will take place in McGregor 130 and will last roughly two hours. Snacks will be provided.

Reunion 2013 faculty/staff registration REQUIRED

It's that time again. Reunion 2013 is just around the corner: Friday, June 14 - Sunday, June 16. Advancement Office needs student worker

The Antioch College Advancement Office is looking for a part-time student worker for the spring quarter. Work will be 5-7 hours per week, and can be flexible during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. Tasks will include data entry, event planning, annual fund support, administrative tasks, and more. Preferred Names Policy

Antioch College recognizes that as a community, many of its members use names other than their legal names to identify themselves. As long as the use of this different name is not for the purposes of misrepresentation, the college acknowledges that a "preferred name" can be used wherever possible in the course of college business and education. Therefore, it is the policy of the college that any student may choose to identify themselves within the college’s established communications and records management systems (i.e. campus email, course management system, student information system, etc.) with a preferred name, in addition to the person's legal name.

The preferred name option provides for choosing a different first, middle, or last name, or any combination thereof. Students in transition may also change their gender designation from male or female to unknown, which is used by students who decline to state their gender when applying to Antioch College.

At this time, examples of where your preferred name would be used are:

  • Campus Directory
  • Class Rosters
  • Campus Email Address
  • Campus ID Cards (must have copy of approval letter for Preferred Name with you to receive a new ID card at no charge)

Examples where your legal name would continue to be used are:

  • Academic Records
  • TranscriptsDiplomas
  • Financial Aid and Scholarships Documents
  • Any legal documents produced by Antioch College

The individual is free to determine the preferred name he or she wants to be known by. However, inappropriate use of the preferred name policy (including but not limited to avoiding a legal obligation or misrepresentation) may be cause for denying the request or converting the preferred name back to the legal name, if a usage offense has been detected after initial approval of the request.

The following identifies the request process for a preferred name to be used at Antioch College without a legal name change:

  1. Submit a completed Request for Preferred Name Form. The request form must be submitted to the Dean of Community Life. Documentation is not required.
  2. Once the request has been received and an endorsement from the Dean of Community Life has been provided, the form will be submitted to the Office of the Registrar and Academic Services for processing.
  3. A Notification of Request status and approval letter will be sent to the requestor’s email indicated on the request form in Part 1, no later than 15 business days from receipt of the original request in the Office of the Registrar and Academic Services. Changes made once approval is established are not retroactive.

NOTE: Because the official/legal name appears on the academic record transcript and diploma, and official/legal name and gender are reflected on narrative evaluations, it is important for students who transition to complete the legal change of name and gender with the court system. The links below may assist you in this endeavor, in addition to serving as a means to information.



Antioch College Menu and Announcement

Antioch Kitchens asks that people visiting the dining hall please not remove dishes, cups, mugs, silverware, chairs etc. from the dining room. We can provide reusable and compostable to-go items for coffee, tea, food upon request. Thank you for your cooperation.

The North Hall Dining Room opens at 12:00 p.m. and we serve until lunch until 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. We ask that faculty, staff, and visitors offer $5.00, paid via the "honor system," to a deposit safe located near the front entrance of the dining room. We also ask that shoes and shirts be worn in the dinning room at all times and that food not be taken to-go unless you are unable to join us for a meal during the established meal time. Thank you!
