Otha Davenport passed away on June 20, 2013 at Ohio State University surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Otha was born September 4, 1944 in McAlester, Oklahoma the son of Ocie Bea Davenport and Ruby Lee Goodman Davenport. Otha’s love for aviation began when he was a young boy and led him and his family to an aspiring career at WPAFB receiving numerous commendations throughout his career and being inducted into the USAF Safety Hall of Fame in 2002. Otha was also involved in the Greene County Sheep Committee serving as President for several years and actively worked for the continued fruition of the local 4-H program. Otha loved animals and farming, raising sheep and cattle for many years of his life. Otha loved traveling with his wife Marti and especially enjoyed their times wintering at St. Padre Island in Texas. Otha also had a passion to help in the revival of the Antioch institution and was an active member of NonStop where many of his actions aided in the restructuring and revival of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Otha was preceded in death by his father and mother Ocie Bea and Ruby Davenport as well as Brothers George Herman, WA and Harmon. Otha is survived by his wonderful wife of 47 years Margaret (Parr) Davenport, sister, Marjorie King, daughter Hollie (Roger) Meddock, grandchildren Stefan Ritchie, Ruby Paige King and Chase Meddock. Otha is also survived by his dear nephews, Steve (Cathy) King, Larry Don (Jane) King, and cousins Brandon (Anna) Narr, Colby Don (Phalynn) King, Tyler Nelson King and Angelee King and many other family members and friends. Otha enjoyed the time he spent with his special friends Ralph and Esther Grimm enjoying many visits to Padre Island and other travels during Otha’s years of retirement. Otha was a great man who impacted most people he came into contact with including many of the nurses and staff at OSU Wexner Doan hall where he received the best care from the doctors, nurses and other staff during his illness. Services will be held at 11am, Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Neeld Funeral Home. 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Rev. Terry Hall officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 am Wednesday, until service time. Private burial will be in Massies Creek Cemetery in Cedarville, following the service.
