Nancy Hoyt left for her next adventure November 27, 2010. She was born the only daughter of Theron and Elza Hoyt in Jamaica, NY on May 25, 1918. Being the middle child between her brothers Theron and Harry was a constant source of challenge, love and humor for her and, with their parents, helped Nancy to develop into the very independent and indomitable person that she was.
Nancy graduated Antioch College earning a degree in Library Science. She became a research librarian in laboratories including Bell Laboratories in New Jersey and also worked in other libraries. Here she was able to continue her quest for knowledge while teaching those around her. Nancy most enjoyed helping the scientists formulate what exactly they were looking for and provide them with the tools to get there.
Nancy loved to travel to learn about how others lived. She often described her photo safari trip to Africa as the ""Journey of a Lifetime"". Nancy was always athletic and especially enjoyed golf. In her later years, she and her lifelong friend Verda Powell could often be found walking their Corgis at Rainbow Bridge Park where they would meet Ellen Gerwin, Tom and Gail Dougherty and others who will mourn her passing.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Elza Hoyt; and father, Theron B. Hoyt; as well as brothers, Harry and Theron C. Hoyt; and lifelong friend, Verda Powell. She leaves behind many nephews and nieces who will greatly miss her observations and wit: Bill Hoyt, Susan Hoyt, Bob Hoyt, Patty Hannam, Judy Hoyt, Jan Hoyt, and Marshall Hoyt. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. John's Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center and Amber Care Hospice for the gentle loving care provided.
