Mr. Laurence Hapgood, 74, formerly of Newport, Rhode Island, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at home of natural causes. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on November 18, 1938, the son of Miles M. Hapgood and Ethelynd Foss Hapgood, he was a graduate of Antioch College (BA), and the University of Chicago (MBA). Following graduation, Mr. Hapgood was employed by Corning Glass Works in Bradford, PA, before moving to Chicago where he joined Booz Allen and Hamilton in 1965 going on to become a Partner and Senior Vice President for Europe and the Middle East based. He retired in 1995 as a Director at the Alexander Consulting Group. He was a member of the Institute of Management Consultants. Mr. Hapgood was very active in the arts serving on the Arts Council (state of Illinois) as well as working with many local arts initiatives, and was an active member of the Arts Club in London, England where he lived for 30 years. He served for many years as a member of the Board of Directors for IFKYO. In 2006, Mr. Hapgood moved back to the US (Rhode Island) where he was active volunteer with Save the Bay. Throughout his life he was an avid traveler and collector of antique toys. Mr. Hapgood was married and divorced twice, to Karen E. Hapgood and subsequently to Svava Bjarnason. He leaves a son Andrew S. Hapgood of London, England, a daughter Kimberly J. Hapgood of Newport RI, a sister Mrs. Elizabeth Noepel of Lenox, MA and brother, David Hapgood of Boynton Beach, FL, and a grandson. Private services were held in Pittsfield MA.
