POMPANO BEACH, FL - Joseph J. "Jay" Napolitan Jr., 52, of Pompano Beach, died on Wednesday January 19, 2011 at his home.
Jay was born in Springfield, MA, on February 22, 1958, which was George Washington's birthday, a son of Joseph J. and Mary (Nelen) Napolitan of Springfield and attended Ursuline Academy, Acre Brook Academy and the Northfield Mount Hermon School. He was a graduate of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH in 1981.
Jay was a freelance writer and had written three novels. He had also worked on several political campaigns. Jay loved trivia, quotations and jokes.
In addition to his parents, Jay will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him including his siblings, Christina Napolitan of West Tisbury, MA, Luke Napolitan of Springfield, and Martha Napolitan and her husband Ben Cowen of Springfield; his nieces and nephews, Lucy Savage, Mary Sage Napolitan, Francis Cota, and Clara and Diggory Cownap; and his many extended family members and friends.
Jay's family will receive friends on Tuesday January 25, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road in Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 26, 2011 beginning at 9:30 a.m. from Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson Street, with Rites of Committal and Interment to follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, 1601 State Street, all in Springfield. Donations may be made in Jay's memory to the Carlson Recovery Center, 471 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01107.
