Evelyn A. Hill, faithful servant of God, died on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was 75.
Evelyn was born May 15, 1937, in Yellow Springs to Della Baber and Lewis Adams. She professed her faith in Christ at a young age, joining St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield. Later in life, she joined First Baptist Church of Yellow Springs, recommitting her life to Christ. She enjoyed and was active in several ministries at First Baptist Church, until her illness precluded her involvement. Sunday school and Awana were two of her favorite activities. Evelyn also held several positions on the deaconess board at First Baptist Church. She held dear worshipping and serving at First Baptist Church and missed fellowshipping with her First Baptist Church family.
Evelyn graduated from Bryan High School in 1955 and attended Capital University for one year. Her first job was with Arthur Morgan at Community Service. She later worked at Olive Kettering Library at Antioch College, holding various jobs. Evelyn retired as library secretary at Antioch College in 2006.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, David Hill, Jr., daughters Catherine L. Hill and Tracy E. Phillips, and sons David Madison Hill and Todd J. Hill; sister Isabel (Cecil) Newman, of Yellow Springs; brother-in-laws Robert Hill and Louis (Marva) Hill and sisters-in-law Laura Hinton and Loretta Thompson all of Springfield, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she adored. Evelyn counted as special friends Pastor Vurn and Sister Ida Mullins, longtime dear friends William and Thelma Ross and Wilbur and Donna Brown.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Della and Lewis Adams, and four sisters, Genevieve Rivers, Lois Edwards, Charlotte Jordan and Naomi McKee.
Service for Evelyn Hill will be held Saturday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Yellow Springs. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until start of service. Reverend William Randolph will officiate and Reverend Milk Barnett will serve as eulogist. Interment will be held on Monday Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. at Glen Forest Cemetery. Services entrusted to Porter-Qualls-Dunlap Funeral Home.
