Born March 18, 1930, to Clifford and Catharine Linn in Chicago, Illinois, Joan Lee Linn Lenzer died on March 10, 2014. She graduated from Drummer Township High in Gibson City, IL in 1947. Ambitious and outspoken, she enrolled at the innovative Antioch College, where she met her loving husband of 63 years, Anthony Lenzer '52. They married in 1951 and attended Tulane University in New Orleans where Joan received her Masters in Social Work.
Settling in Ann Arbor, MI, Joan and Tony raised a growing family of five children. In 1969 they relocated to Hawaii for Tony's job at the University of Hawaii.
Joan was an avid reader, gourmet cook, inveterate shopper and Life Master bridge player. Joan was “mother” to more than her biological children. Her home was where all the neighborhood kids gathered.
Joan was a world traveler. She was a dedicated collector of art and antiques, with a special fondness for Asian décor. She loved flowers and spent her life surrounded by green growing things.
Joan was artistic and theatrical. Many Kailua residents will remember her wild and wonderful Halloween parties from the '70s. She inspired all her children to be creative, independent thinkers. She was generous of heart, optimistic in spirit and had a gentle humor.
Joan is survived by husband Anthony Lenzer, brother Jeffery Linn (Joan), daughters Sara Lenzer Medeiros (Daniel), Margaret Lenzer, Elizabeth Lenzer (Vincent), sons David Lenzer, Andrew Lenzer (Margaret). Hanai children Heather Strickland, Shelley Cranshaw, James Lelong. Grandchildren Julia Curlee, Samuel Curlee, Caitlin Slattery, Lucinda Slattery. Great-grandchildren Howard Curlee and Rebekah Curlee. Niece Laura Linn, nephew Michael Linn.
