Carol J. Kean '69

Carol Trenton Judy Kean '69, born in March of 1946, passed away on April 6, 2014, in Madison, WI, after an eight-month battle with cancer. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Kean. She is survived by her son, Sean Kean; sister, Patricia Fici '70; brother, Timblin Judy '78; step-son, Michael Kean; step-daughter, Mary Kean; nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Born and raised in Yellow Springs, Ohio, Carol attended undergraduate school at Antioch College, followed by graduate work at UW-Madison, receiving her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction in 1983. During her years as a graduate student, Carol most fondly remembered her work with the Native American Teacher Corps, where she met her future husband, Jack. An avid reader and learner, Carol chose to convert to Judaism after the birth of her son, Sean. She dove into the study of her chosen faith, learning Hebrew and studying the Torah to be able to participate as fully as possible in this community. Her interest in learning continued throughout her life. The family wishes to thank the many friends who were able to re-connect with Carol in the last few months of her life, and also the tremendous staff and volunteers at Agrace HospiceCare who cared for Carol so well. There was an open house/quiet celebration of Carol's life in the JOHNSON DINING ROOM at AGRACE HOSPICECARE, located at 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, in Fitchburg, on Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Ellestad Camacho Funeral Home, 500 N. 8th St., Mount Horeb, Wis., is serving the family.
