Thursday, August 30, 2012 - 3:00pm
The opening reception for photographer, videographer, and performance artist Sheilah Wilson will be held in the Herndon Gallery in South Hall on Thursday, August 30. The exhibition is titled If Becoming This and will run through November 16. The exhibition will include both photography and video. The reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. with an artist’s presentation at 7:30 p.m. “My work is consistently drawn to the romantic and absurd ideal of the body acting as a translation machine of experience and story,—Wilson said. “I believe in the potential of the personal voice, and the body itself, to act as diversionary forces. I use photography, video, and text as performative and documentary tools for my various attempts to pick through the seams of narrative and image.” Wilson is an assistant professor of photography and new media at Denison College in Granville, Ohio. Wilson has been the recipient of numerous awards in the U.S. and Canada, and shows her work both nationally and internationally. Visit her website at www.sheilahwilson.com.
