As a part of the foreign language curriculum, students, faculty, staff, and all other Antioch community members are invited to attend a foreign film festival. On January 29, the festival will screen the French film La Belle et la bête (Jean Cocteau, 1946). Adélaïde, Belle, Félicie and Ludovic are young adult siblings who once lived in grandeur until their father’s merchant ships were lost at sea. The family is now near ruin, but Adélaïde and Félicie nonetheless still squander away the family money on themselves and keeping beautiful, whereas Belle slaves around the house, doting on her father.
