Associate Professor of Performance

Dr. Gabrielle Civil will join the faculty to teach performance at Antioch College in the fall. She will arrive from St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she earned tenure as an associate professor of English, women’s studies, and critical studies of race and ethnicity. In the 2004-2005 school year, Civil won St. Catherine’s “Teacher of the Year” award for faculty teaching and advising and in 2012-2013, she was a finalist again for the award. She earned her doctorate in comparative literature from New York University (NYU) in 2000, and since then, her scholarly work and performance art has been featured and performed internationally. She is currently circulating her book project titled, Swallow the Fish: Black Feminist Performance Art Practice for publication and aims to launch the catalogue of her Fulbright Fellowship project, In & Out of Place: Making Black Feminist Performance Art in Mexico, in early 2014.
