Darren Gilley

Faculty

While studying anthropology in college, Darren became interested in the music and dance of West Africa. After taking the beginning and intermediate West African drum and dance classes in college, he desired more in-depth instruction than what was available in the United States. After graduation in 1995 he took his first trip to West Africa to study percussion in the place of its origin. In January of 1998, he moved to Conakry, the capital city of the Republic of Guinea, to further submerse himself in the study of West African percussion.
