Antioch College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Philosophy to begin in the fall of 2014. Area of Specialization (AOS): non-Western philosophy or Environmental Ethics or Critical Theory; Areas of Competency (AOC): open, but the ideal candidate should be able to teach multiple courses in Antioch’s existing philosophy curriculum. A PhD in philosophy or a closely related field is expected by time of appointment. The College is seeking a colleague who has a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and has strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education. Candidates should be prepared to teach within an undergraduate liberal arts curriculum dedicated to linking theoretical knowledge to experiential knowledge. Rank and tenure status are open depending on qualifications, and salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Philosophy is a major in the Humanities Division, along with Literature and History. The successful applicant will be expected to teach introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses in philosophy. In addition to offering courses within the discipline, the candidate is expected, in a collaborative format, to significantly contribute to organizing and leading team-taught, interdisciplinary, thematic Global Seminars. These themes include water, food, energy, health, education, and governance. Research and/or teaching experience in at least one of these themes is highly desirable. In addition to teaching responsibilities, applicants will also be expected to be involved with academic advising, including overseeing Senior Projects/Theses in the major.
