Instructor of Spanish

Antioch College seeks applications for a full-time instructor appointment in Spanish to begin September 1st, 2014.  This appointment is for one academic year.  The minimum qualifications required are an MA or MAT in Foreign Language Pedagogy/Education or Applied Linguistics.  Ph. D. preferred. Applicants should have native or near-native command of Spanish as well as first-hand knowledge of Hispanic contemporary cultures. College teaching experience is required and experience with proficiency-based programs is preferred.  The successful applicant will be expected to teach Spanish Language and Culture classes at all undergraduate levels through both, face-to-face and online courses.  In addition, applicants will have some administrative responsibilities, will be involved with student advising including language placement interviews, and developing individualized language learning plans. Because of the co-op program and its international placements, special attention needs to be given to Spanish language use in work and other cultural settings. The ideal candidate will have the ability to contribute to all departmental events and programs including but not limited to CLAC, language tables, festivals, and film series.

In addition to evidence of successful language teaching experience, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to quality undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Applicants must be currently eligible to work in the United States in order to be considered for this position.  The teaching load for this position is up to 36 quarter credits (equivalent to 24 semester credits) per year in a year-round academic calendar. The number of credits per language course varies from 2 to 4.
