Update as of March 2014
Estimated completion: December 2014
The Arts & Science Building underwent an initial renovation in 2012 that introduced cutting edge, environmentally friendly “green” fume hoods in four of its newly renovated laboratories. During this second phase of the renovation, which began January 2014, the focus will now shift to providing classroom space for the arts program while adding a Physics and Optics lab for the science program.
By bringing the arts and sciences under a single roof, we hope to model the true meaning of integrated, interdisciplinary instruction at the heart of our campus. This initiative also limits our physical footprint and maximizes space allocation.
Arts & Science Phase II will add the following classrooms to the program:
- Drawing Studio
- Wood Workshop
- Media Arts
- Optics Lab
- Sculpture Studio
- Painting Studio
- Physics Lab
- Lecture Hall
The renovation project will also add faculty offices, lounges, an art gallery, a conference seminar room, and remodeled restrooms. The college plans to achieve LEED certification for the building and will have the following green attributes:
- Efficient Lighting and Controls
- New Insulated Glass Windows
- Daylight Harvesting
- Low or No VOC Paints & Sealants
- Geothermal HVAC System
- Exterior Wall Insulation
- Green Lab Hood Technology
- Energy Monitoring System
Construction work on the Arts and Science Phase II renovation is scheduled to be completed by December 2014, in time for the Class of 2018.
